Washington [US], January 21 (FeedsIndia): Samsung Display revealed on Thursday its plans to mass-produce the world’s first 90Hz OLED screens designed for laptops, with the smartphone industry increasingly moving to higher refresh rate displays.
Several global IT companies might release their models with these new panels built this year, according to The Verge. In a tweet, Choi Joo-sun, CEO of the company, says that starting in March the production of these 90Hz OLED screens will be carried out in “very large quantities”.
Samsung Display does not have an official word for specifications such as aspect ratio and resolution, as per The Verge. However, it is likely that there will be more than one variant of these higher refresh rate OLED displays.
Typically, when showing fast-moving content, Samsung claims its present number of OLED screens have virtually the same degree of blurring as that of a 120Hz LCD screen.
OLED displays are not a popular trend in the market for laptops. However, this is still not something entirely unheard of. Currently, as a customizable alternative, a large number of gaming laptops offer OLED displays, the trade-off being the lower refresh rate than what LCD screens offer.
Samsung Display is the largest vendor of OLED display panels in the world.
Therefore, this latest announcement suggests that in 2021, laptops with OLED displays might become much more popular. (FeedsIndia)
