Washington [US], January 21 (FeedsIndia): The first virtual reality headset by the American multinational technology company Apple will reportedly sport powerful processors, a high-resolution screen, and a fan, along with a steep price tag.
According to The Verge, Apple’s VR headset, identical to the Oculus Quest 2, will be considered a niche product that might release in 2022 as a standalone device that operates through batteries.
For this unannounced VR headset, the company is reportedly working on “some of its most advanced and powerful chips” with some chips reportedly beating its own M1 Mac processors.
The new VR headset codenamed ‘N301’ will be “far more expensive” than the other headsets available by Apple’s competitors. To allow some AR features, some prototypes being tested include external cameras.
The ability to use these cameras to track hand movements is also reportedly in its testing phase by Apple. It includes software features such as a virtual keyboard.
As per The Verge, in the development of this new VR headset, Apple has reportedly faced quite a few challenges. Apple will reportedly use a fabric exterior to minimize the weight of the headset, with some prototypes ending up too large and bulky.
The company will also use a fan, which, considering its reliance on fan-less designs, is an uncommon move from Apple.
Apple, according to various reports, has been working on VR and AR headsets for years. Last year, Apple published a comprehensive look at its plans for VR and AR. Noting that the company has around 1,000 people working on its AR and VR projects. (FeedsIndia)
